A Journey of Service and Expertise
Dr. Swainhart’s path to dentistry began at the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry, where he earned his Doctorate of Dental Medicine, followed by a Master of Business Administration from Texas A&M – Central Texas. Upon graduation, Dr. Swainhart served as a Captain in the U.S. Army Dental Corps, honing his skills as both a general dentist and forensic dental officer. During his military service at Fort Hood, Texas, and at Fort Huachuca, Arizona, he received commendations for his dedication, including the Army Achievement Medal and two Army Commendation Medals.
His time in the military not only sharpened his clinical skills but also deepened his commitment to patient care and precision in dentistry. After completing his service, Dr. Swainhart pursued additional implantology training at the Loma Linda University MaxiCourse, where he further developed advanced dental implant techniques. In 2016, he brought his expertise to Scottsdale, aquiring Carefree Smile with a vision of creating a patient-first practice.

Many of Dr. Swainhart’s patients are retirees who have chosen Scottsdale as their new home. Recognizing that many have existing dental work that may be decades old, he focuses on restoring and enhancing these treatments to align with their current oral health. With an eye for longevity and functionality, Dr. Swainhart is dedicated to helping his patients maintain healthy, resilient smiles that will support them with confidence. His approach is both restorative and preventive, ensuring that his patients feel secure and confident about their dental health for years to come.
Serving the Community, Inside and Outside the Office
Dr. Swainhart’s commitment to giving back extends beyond the dental chair. He has served on the Board of Governors for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale since 2018, currently as Safety Chair, and is a member of the Arizona Musicfest Board of Directors. In addition to these roles, he participates in community dental service missions, including the Arizona Mission of Mercy, where he has provided hundreds of extractions for underserved populations. This dedication to community service underscores his belief that dentistry is not just about caring for individuals but also about uplifting the entire community.
Life Beyond Dentistry
When he’s not in the office, Dr. Swainhart embraces his “dad duties” with enthusiasm, spending time with his three young sons exploring all that Arizona has to offer. From local parks and trails to splash pads and family-friendly adventures, Dr. Swainhart makes the most of his time with his family. He also enjoys time with his parents who have also moved to Arizona.

Together, Dr. Swainhart and his wife, Dr. Ashley Howarth—a board-certified plastic surgeon who completed her training at the prestigious Mayo Clinic Arizona—make a dynamic team in both healthcare and community service. Both in their respective practices and beyond, they are committed to giving back, actively supporting local community organizations. Dedicated to developing the next generation, they also offer mentorship and shadowing opportunities to young surgeons and dentists, sharing their expertise and passion for healthcare with those in training.
