Root Canal Dentist Scottsdale

If you are suffering from a severe toothache, chances are your tooth may require root canal therapy.  In a root canal treatment, the nerve, vital tissues, and non-vital tissues are removed from the inside of the tooth.  The inside of the tooth and its roots are cleaned, irrigated, and medicated.  Then the roots and nerve chambers are filled with a very bio-friendly material called gutta percha.  This procedure can be completed by a root canal specialist called an endodontist, or it can be completed by a general dentist.

If you live in the Scottsdale, Cave Creek or North Phoenix areas and are suffering from toothache pain, chances are you have a cavity or may be in the need of a root canal.  Please stop by Carefree Smile for a consultation.

During a Root Canal why does the tooth pulp and nerve need to be removed?

When a tooth’s nerve tissue or pulp is damaged, it breaks down and bacteria begin to multiply within the pulp chamber. Bacteria and other decayed debris from food residue often cause an infection or abscessed tooth. An abscess is a pocket containing pus that forms at the end of the tooth’s root.  An abscess occurs when the infection spreads all the way past the ends of the roots of the tooth.

In addition to an abscess, an infection in the root canal of a tooth can cause:

  • Pain and/or swelling that may spread to other areas of the face
  • Loss of bone structure surrounding the root
  • Drainage problems extending from the root

How do I know if I might need Root Canal Treatment?

Sometimes there are no symptoms. If you experience any of the following, contact Scottsdale Root Canal Dentist Dr. Swainhart right away for a consultation:

  • Toothache pain while chewing on when any pressure is applied to the tooth
  • Continuous sensitivity or pain to hot or cold temperatures (temperature fluctuations)
  • Discoloration (a darkening) of the tooth
  • Tenderness and/or swelling of the gums
  • A pimple-like bump on the gums that does not heal or recurs

How much does a Root Canal cost in Scottsdale, Cave Creek, or Carefree?

As with every patient, a consultation is necessary to assess the situation and accurately tell you the cost of a root canal. When considering the cost of a root canal, look at the alternative of extracting the tooth to remove the infection.  Don’t let tooth pain control your life! Find out if you need a root canal by scheduling a consultation at our North Scottsdale office.  We see patients in Scottsdale, Cave Creek, and Carefree.  When appropriate, we may recommend referring your case to an endodontic specialist.
